Absenteeism Reporting

Absenteeism Reporting System for New Hampshire Schools
New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services

DHHS MEMO to School Nurses

2024 - 2025 School Year

This reporting program is an important source of information for public health monitoring and we strongly encourage you to participate. If you volunteer to provide these data, please ensure that reporting is consistent so that the data will be useful in evaluating trends in illness in the community over time.  You can access the new tool by following this link:
https://new-hampshire.my.site.com/aggregatereporting/s/school-absenteeism-report

*For easier access each week, consider bookmarking the link to your favorites.

With this reporting tool, the designated person for absenteeism reporting will report your school’s weekly aggregate counts for student and staff absenteeism. The only required reporting field is the total number of students absent. However, if your school has access and bandwidth to report on additional absenteeism-related markers (e.g. number of staff ill, number of students out due to reported influenza-like illness or gastrointestinal illness, etc.), the more robust the data will be and the better New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) will be able to assist and provide resources as needed.

This reporting tool relies on the weekly reporting of aggregate counts. Reporting for the previous week's reporting period (Saturday-Friday) is due by 4pm Tuesdays each week. However, we understand school vacations and other extenuating circumstances arise. We are happy to offer flexibility in receiving this data as situationally necessary. Even delayed, this data is valuable and informative.

Drug Abuse / Opioids

Taylor Hooten Foundation

Appearance and Performance Enhancing Substances, also known as performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), are substances used to improve any form of activity, performance and/or appearance in humans. These substances range from an array of medical disciplines and related fields, and are associated with numerous, potentially serious, physical and psychiatric side effects. While these substances have a long history in sport and competition, studies have found millions of teenagers are also turning to them with the idea that they will improve their physical appearance as well as athletic performance.

Some of the substances that fall under this category are things like anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS), human growth hormone (hGH), dietary supplements and even energy drinks.

The webinar also included a panel discussion with speakers from various New Mexico LEAs. This presentation covered:

  • Ways LEAs can engage in State work to expand Medicaid SBS
  • Resources and solutions to support Medicaid SBS expansion

A recording of the webinar, presentation slides, and summary handout are available below. Please direct any questions related to the meeting or guidance to the SBS mailbox at SchoolBasedServices@cms.hhs.gov.

Do you know where your Community Health Centers are?

New Hampshire's Community Health Centers offer culturally competent, high-quality primary health care in medically underserved areas to overcome economic, geographic, or cultural barriers that limit access to affordable health care. Health centers integrate primary and preventive health care services, often under one roof, including mental and behavioral health, oral health, substance use treatment, and pharmacy services. Community Health Centers accept Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, and offer a sliding fee based on income.

The Necessary Role of School Nurses in Improving Inclusive Educational Spaces
Technology Assisted Children's Home Program Training Series - PDF of Webinar June 2025

Training Description
All students deserve to access educational spaces in a safe and meaningful way. Inclusion of students with disabilities and special health care needs in all school settings requires significant planning from a well-informed team. School nurses play an integral role in that planning but sometimes are looped in very late - or not at all. Join Technology Assisted Children’s Home Program for a look at the ways school nurses can improve school safety and accessibility for children with disabilities and special health care needs.

Learning Outcomes

  • Review the history of educational rights for students with disabilities-  IEPs, 504s
  • Identify planning documents schools can use to ensure all students are included in educational environments
  • Gain understanding of the complex “care map” students and their families are navigating
  • Interact with resources and tools to improve school nurses’ ability to support and advocate for their students with disabilities and special health care needs
