School Nurse of the Year

Pam Murphy RN of the  Peterborough Elementary  School has been named  School Nurse of the Year  by the New Hampshire  School Nurses'  Association.  Pam was  nominated by her former,  now retired principal, her  current principal, guidance counselor, director of SPED services and several parents.  Pam is pictured here with Cathy Forrest RN (School Nurse of the Year Committee Chair) at the NHSNA annual spring meeting.  She also was honored at the New Hampshire Excellence in Education Awards Celebration also known as the "ED" ies.

Pam was cited as initiating and managing numerous programs at her school and the larger community such as the Monadnock Healthy Teeth Program; The Rotary's Operation Santa; and the "SKIP" Program which addresses latch-key kids.

NHSNA has benefited greatly from Pam's expertise as well.  She has served as co-chair of Continuing Education for years, as well as being our current Treasurer.  In 2010, she served as President.

Nominations for the 15-16 School Nurse of the Year will open in September.

New England School Nurse Conference

Thank you to all the New Hampshire school nurses who volunteered and who made the New England School Nurses Conference "Charting the Course for Student Success"  such a great success.

Also a special thank you to our sponsor ConvenientMD. Click here to read about their School Nurse Partnership Program

Over 170 school nurses from New England participated in enriching educational programs and enjoyed the New Hampshire seacoast on May 2nd and 3rd.  New Hampshire will have the pleasure of hosting the New England Conference again in 2021. The 2016 Conference will be hosted by CT in Mystic.

NH Teen Driver Project

“The purpose of the NH Teen Driver Project is to reduce the number of teen driver crashes and establish a safe teen driver culture within 15 high schools by creating student led peer-to-peer programs focused on highway safety,” Project Coordinator Steve Gratton said. “The long-term goal is to expand this peer-to-peer program statewide.”

Our Voice at the National Level

A note from Laurie Fleming MPH, RN, NCSN

NASN is the organization that supports the practice of school nursing at the national level.  NHSNA is an affiliate of NASN.  I have been elected by NHSNA to represent NH to the NASN board for the next 4 years. The directors are on the board of the national association so that each state gets a voice at the national level.   This year the NASN conference will be held in Philadelphia, PA on June 24-27 with a pre-conference day on June 23.  Information about this conference can be found HERE.    This is a great conference and we hope you can join us.   ~~ Warmly, Laurie Fleming MPH, RN, NCSN

Your Professional Organization Needs You!

The New Hampshire School Nurses' Association functions because of the dedication of  school nurses who volunteer to serve on committees.  We hope you will consider joining  one of our committees.  As NHSNA Board and Committee members, we have the  opportunity to define practice and serve as leaders for nurses in every school across our  state. Our organization organizes school nurse continuing education conferences. One of  our committees works with legislators on laws that define and guide our practice at school.  We serve as consultants for the Department of Education, the Board of Nursing, the NH School Psychologist Association, members of the New Hampshire Senate and House of Representatives.  It is a privilege serving on the Board of NHSNA, as well as a wonderful opportunity for personal and professional growth. The things you learn by being a part of this group will enhance your knowledge and skills as you serve your school community. Currently we have positions open and would be happy to discuss opportunities with NHSNA. CLICK HERE to see If you may have an interest in joining one of our committees. Please email us at NHSNA@comcast.net. We would love to hear from you. Please join us, and help us make our New Hampshire School Nurses organization a leader for other school nurse organizations in our nation.
