I am an AHA instructor and my training center is McGregor EMS.  I do both BLS and Heartsaver classes.  A BLS instructor can do Heartsaver classes.

The cost for the cards is $5 per person for school personnel and students.  Class cost would vary depending on who teaches the class and what they charge.

I have been observed for both BLS and Heartsaver.  It depends on the class being offered at the time of my renewal.  In the past, they have traveled to where I have been teaching to observe me.

I too would be interested in these answers.  With what has come up recently with the requirements of teachers having this in order to give certain medications while on field trips, I have to say, my school has no one to go on a trip but me. I actually went around last year & asked every teacher if they had a certification, and other than the gym teacher (his was expiring soon), not one person had it, and many used the fear of potential liability/lawsuit as reasons for not having.  I used to be a trainer, & would not mind going back to renew to spread the knowledge, but time & cost I am sure will be a factor

    Hi Folks,
Quick questions for any fellow school nurses who teach American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED to the staff of your schools.

What training center are you affiliated with?

What is the cost per student card, for the new "Heartsaver for K-12 Schools" card?

Are there any other fees per student? What is the total cost per student?

Do they come to your site every other year for the required trainer observation, or do you have to travel to them?

Do they also certify you at the BLS level? What is involved there, in addition to their observation of your Heartsaver class?

    Thanks,

    Donna Clark BSN, RN, NCSN
